Kandy flushed red with embarassment. First, she'd made the poor pixie think about his dead parents. Now, he was talking about how most kids wished their parents would go away..."I-I really didn't mean it that way." She stammered, shoving the bag of pet chow back on its shelf. She meant to make a good comparison with positive results, not suggest that maybe he could meet someone willing to make his parents disappear!
Eclipse made it up to Demi's shoulder after a long, slippery journey. Well, she looking up at Demi's shoulder, anyway, and clinging for dear life to his shirt. It seemed like she thought that if she tried going up any higher, she would fall down.
His pleas to not feel bad for him did not go unheard. She couldn't possibly ask him what happened, so she had no choice but to change the subject. "So...are you just browsing today?" The half-elf tried uneasily.

"I know... and you aren't offending me or anything I am perfectly fine talking about this topic." Demetri said with a smirk. He was ok at this topic, it wasn't his favorite topic but with evertime it seemed to get easier to talk about, he was glad about that fact. He looked to the cat as she stopped, he reached up holding her lightly as not to let her fall. He glanced back up to Kandy when she spoke. "Yeah pretty much.. I do a lot, I like to see all the animals in here... " Demetri said with a smirk...

"You do?" She asked, surprised. "I don't remember seeing you before. I may not be good with names, but I'm pretty good with faces!" Being that she was the only person who'd worked at Magical Pet Emporium for a few years, surely she would have seen him - or he her - fairly often. She felt guilty that she couldn't remember him...then again, maybe she really hadn't seen him. Maybe she was in the back, or on her lunch break, or daydreaming, or maybe the shop was closed when he came by. Maybe he just peered through the window and never came in.
"So...you like animals?" She cringed and gave a short, nervous laugh. Of course he does, silly, he just said that! "Right. Well, do you know what you want to do when you're done with school yet?" She was rapidly running out of things to say, but she did her best to make sure he didn't know that. She didn't often have to talk to customers for so long; most of them just came in and out.

"Hmm .. yes I do actually like once ever week or so.. I don't know I come here when I am bored.. maybe it's my height.." Demetri said with a smirk. He never cared about being short, it had it's advantages sometimes. Like it was wonderful in hide and seek, he always won. He took a glance to her as she spoke. "Yes.. I have always like animals.. except for scary ones.." Demetri said with a light smile. He didn't like giant animals, well it could be hard. He liked smaller animals, and he was ok with most dogs as well. He was more of a cat person, they never got bigger then him. Unless it was like a tiger or something but how often are you around them. "No.. I don't really know..." Demetri said with a shrug. "I'm getting close to my last year and I'm still not sure.." He said as he was looking to eclipse...

"Really?" Kandy piped again, surprised. Short or not, she was sure that she would remember anyone who stopped by so often, short or not. Rather than making him less noticable, she would have thought that his height and wings would make him more memorable. She didn't get a lot of pixie customers.
Oh no, I must be getting old. My memory's going!
"Scary ones? Like dragons? A lot of 'scary ones' demand respect; they're very prideful. If you don't act proper around them, they'll get offended, which makes them very grumpy!" She gave Demi a reassuring smile. "None of the creatures we carry are overly dangerous. We do have dragons, but they're rather...tiny. They call them dwarf dragons."
She couldn't help but wonder if the miniature dragons' title ever offended any dwarves. She'd never seen a dwarf in her shop, so she wouldn't know. They seemed to keep to their mountains and caves. If any were pet-shopping, they didn't go to her.
"If you like animals, maybe you could be a breeder or tamer. Or, you could own a pet shop like me!"

"yes.." He siad with a slight smile as he answered reassuring that it was true. He pulled the kitten from his jacket as he held her again, he didn't want her to fall and his arms were hurting from trying to make sure she didn't. He looked to Kandy again as she spoke."no I just don't like big animals is all.. they scare me." Demetri said with a slight smirk. "I don't mind most animals as long as they aren't to big.." Demetri added. "I could..." He said with a shrug, he didn't know he really hadn't decided much of anything yet...

Eclipse blinked sleepily at Demetri when she was whisked away from his shoulder. The climb to the top had worn the little kitten out, and she decided to take a nap there. She gave a soundless yawn, but didn't move, either too comfortable or too tired to attempt returning to her post on his shoulder.
"They scare you, huh? Well, that's because you scare them! A lot of the time, the scary animals are just reacting out of fear. Why, if I were a hippogriff, which I'm obviously not..." Kandy gave a girlish giggle before continuing. "If I were a hippogriff, I'd be wary of people! People trying to catch me, tame me, ride me, sell me. Some people use their meat for food, their skin or fur or hair to make clothing. If that could happen to you, wouldn't you be scared? I find that if you're nice to animals, they're nice to you."
She gave a quick glance to her watch to check the time, and wandered to the back to get her broom. Every day, she followed the same clean-up routine. Sweep the floors, clean the glass and surfaces. Making a habit of tidying up the shop ensured that it was always clean.
"It's getting close to closing time. Can I help you with anything else, Demi?" She inquired sweetly, brushing the broom against the wood floor in a way that could be a melody.
