Torin DeInnes had, for once, taken the public method of transportation to get somewhere. For a man who loved his teleporting and his massive collection of cars, the fact that he was now walking from a public T-Zone was quite a curiosity. But perhaps even more curious was how he was walking.
From the back, it was seemed as though he were walking normally, but from the front it would like like he either had a nervous tic or was trying not to appear as if he was looking behind him. Which he wasn't, not really. He was looking off to the side at a peculiar red-crested blackbird that was flitting from tree to tree alongside him, seeming to watch his movements.
The straight face he had possessed melted into a mischievous grin rather abruptly, and he spun on his heel, disappearing seemingly into his own shadow and reappearing on a tree branch behind the black bird, which now had its head tilted quizzically to the side.
"Sevy!"

The black bird jumped a few inches off of its branch in surprise, turning around in midair. But as it turned, it also began to melt and grow, revealing something else inside it. Something that appeared to be...
A ninja pixie.
"Sir! You shouldn't sneak up on me like that! I might've killed you!" sputtered the pixie, quite flustered. She flew up to his eye level and gave him a cross look. "I'm a trained Shadow; you know, kill people for a living?" She waved around a tiny shuriken as if to emphasize this point.
"And my name is not Sevy. It's Sevestra. Or Shadow Yysara, if you wish.

Torin watched with a bemused smile and nearly-crossed eyes as the pixie fluttered about in front of his nose. No matter how often he saw their kind, he was always mystified by their natural beauty.
"Well you shouldn't sneak up on me either, Sevy. Not that you did a very good job of it," he said, a mock disappointed look on his face. "Alter Self just doesn't do it for you. Maybe you should have tried Hallucinate? Made me overlook you?"
His eyes followed the pixie's shuriken as she waved it around. That was one thing he knew better than to mock. Sure, they were laughably small, but if you got hit with one of them that was dabbed in their poison, you wouldn't be laughing. Or moving.

The silly smile that Torin so often wore always gave Sevy the urge to poke him in the eye, if only because the smile was usually directed at her. And it usually involved her being embarrassed as well.
"You know very well, sir, that it's my job to keep an eye on you," she said impatiently. "And you also know very well that I've tried Hallucinate on you in the past. You just like hearing me admit I'm not powerful enough to affect you with it," she mumbled begrudgingly.
She tucked her shuriken back in her belt and looked out from the tree.
"What are you doing here anyway? Business at MAGI HQ?" she inquired, her tone lightening.

Torin's eyes gleamed as Sevy spoke. He put a hand to his ear.
"What was that last bit, Sevy? About not being able to affect me?" he asked, false curiosity running rampant in his voice. "I'm just kidding you, you do a good job. But really, there's no need to be here."
He straightened up on the limb upon which he was crouching and motioned to his shoulder.
"Come on up. And yes, I do have business at MAGI HQ; Nick's got a new toy for me," he said, excitement in his voice. An anticipatory shiver ran down the length of his spine. "I can't wait!"

Sevy crossed her arms over her chest and shot Torin a disapproving look as he called her out on her abilities for the millionth time, but she brightened and smiled broadly at him when he complimented her. She loved compliments on a job well done.
"Thank you sir!"
She flew up to his shoulder, more than happy to rest her wings after following him for so long. She sat down and crossed her legs, one arm on his neck and the other on his shoulder to brace herself, but she was also ready to reach for her belt or her miniature katana on her back if necessary. Always prepared.
"A new toy?" she asked, eyes wide with curiosity. "I had better come along. Just to, you know, make sure it isn't dangerous."
It was quite easy to tell this was not her only reason for wanting to come.

"You're very welcome," Torin replied as Sevy settled down on his shoulder. He always found it slightly odd to have a person roughly two feet tall just hanging out on his shoulder, but pixies were light as air so it really wasn't a nuisance. He looked up above his shoulder to her face.
"Oh don't worry, it's plenty dangerous," he said, jumping gracefully back to the ground.
* * * Torin walked jovially in to the lobby of MAGI HQ with Sevy still on his shoulder, and made his way straight to the receptionist's desk.
"Top of the morning, Marie," he said, doing his best at a bow as he could with a pixie on his shoulder. "I should have an appointment?" he asked, though it really wasn't a question. This wasn't the sort of thing Torin would just forget to make an appointment for, after all.

The secretary looked up at the guest, her face pulled into a pleasant smile. "Good morning Mr. DeInnes. He's expecting you, please use the guest elevator." She said, gesturing to the door behind her. She then pressed the pager and called. "Mr. Traptory, Mr DeInnes is here for his appointment."
A male voice came through the intercom.
"Ah yes, good. And Marie, I've said you can call me Nicholas, or even Nick."
She rolled her eyes with a smile. "Yes Sir, Mr. Traptory."
Only a small sigh was audible on the other side of the intercom.

"Thank you very much, Marie. And a good day to you," Torin said, throwing in another small bow for good measure.
He walked briskly to the elevator and pressed the "up" button. When the door did not immediately open for him, he glanced up at the display to see what floor it was on. It was on the second floor. He smiled, glad it would be there momentarily.
When the door again did not open immediately, he looked up again. It was on the fourth floor. No, fifth. It was going up. Torin frowned slightly; it was quite a tall building. The elevators may have been fast, but Torin was in no mood for even a shred of patience.
He tapped his toe on the ground as if he had been waiting for a good hour or so, for a good 5 seconds or so before deciding to give up on technology. He spun to face the secretary's desk once more and disappeared. He then, near instantly, reappeared, catching Sevy before she would have a chance to hit the ground due to him disappearing from under her.
"Sorry, forgot I can't bring you with me," he said sheepishly. "Why don't you guard the entrance or something?"
He placed Sevy on the ground gently and disappeared once more, reappearing behind a young inventor in the elevator. He sneezed loudly to inform the man of his presence. The man promptly turned and said, "Gesundheit," following this with a double take and a jump nearly out of his skin as he realized he was now sharing the elevator with someone. He was quick to leave the elevator in an embarassed fashion on the next floor, a stop too early.
Torin smiled and hummed lightly to himself as the distance to the top floor closed quickly. When he finally did reach the top and the doors opened, he stepped out and gave an uproarious greeting.
"Nicholas! How wonderful to see you!"

Nicholas looked up from the papers he was looking over, dressed in his formal attire, as the Chancellor himself walked into his office.
"Well hello sir, how nice to see you again." He said, moving around the desk to extend his hand.
"Now as I recall." He said. "You had commissioned me to make some crazy new invention for you. And as we all know, there is nobody on this planet better then making crazy inventions then I. Now, let me show you the specifics then, I've summarized them for you convenience." He said, throwing a small file at him.
"You'll find it all in there, pictures, blueprints, weapons, speed capabilities, even the individual spells and tech used to make it, should you wish to make another one without my help. I'm quite proud of it, and I could take you to see the first one we rolled out if you wish."

Torin deftly snatched the file from the air and shook Nick's hand heartily, in no particular order. He opened the file to look over the specifics, and saw that they had been nicely summarized for his convenience. There were pictures, blueprints, weapons, speed capabilities, even the individual spells and tech used to make it. Things were, to put it simply, exactly as Nicholas said they were. But Torin didn't care about the pictures, blueprints, weapons, speed capabilities, and the individual spells and tech used to make the crazy invention, and as much as he thought it was swell of Nick to summarize the specifics for his convenience and place them in a neat file, it was the least of his concerns that it got done. He just cared that the crazy invention was made, not how. There would be time for technical nuances later.
He was perfectly ready to make clear just how much he wished to see the first one they rolled out when a nagging voice in his mind, doing what it did best, nagged at him, and he remembered the other reason he was here. Curse those council members.
"I'd love to see it, Nicholas, but I'm also here on TI business," he gave Nick a sour look that should communicate quite well how happy he was to be here on business. "The Council would like to know how the development of the anti-magic field maker thingy is going. I can't, for the life of me, remember what the device is actually called, but they seem to think it's pretty important."
He rolled his eyes. In his mind, there was little need for such a thing. Cancel did the job pretty well, and it worked both as a preemptive measure and a counter-spell. What more could you ask for? Of course, it was then that he remembered that some people (like the one standing right in front of him >_<) couldn't cast magic, and so he was quick to re-evaluate his comment.
"Which, of course, it is! There are so many... applications... for it..." he said haltingly.

OOC: Short for cliffhanger.
IC: Nicholas listened and laughed. "Ah yes, the A-N Field. Yes for people like you it is unneeded, but for people like me it could be a life line. But still that was a little rude..."
Without wasting another second Nicholas drew one of his magi-teck pistols from his black dress jacket and leveled it at the Chancellor himself, seemingly going to fire. Unseen to Torin he palmed the prototype device in his other hand.

The air above a vent in the office that had been warped (seemingly due to heat waves) a moment ago solidified into the shape of a miniature person for a split second as Sevestra's Blur dropped. But her form instantly blurred again as she made use of her natural speed and shot forward to put herself between the gun and the Chancellor, pulling out her katana as she went. Deflecting a projectile with her sword would be a challenge, but she wasn't the head of TI's covert operations just because she could hide.

Torin made little effort to move as Nick raised his pistol, merely cocking an eyebrow and letting an amused smile take over his features. Was he about to get a demo?
But then Sevestra decided to save his life. He looked far less suprised to see her than he actually was; for once, he had not noticed her approach. He brushed this off as him being distracted by his excitement, but could not help but wonder how she had entered the room. Did she come through the ventilation shaft? Simply take the elevator? It was pretty quiet. His lip twitched slightly as he dismissed the thought. He figured he better calm Sevy down before she killed someone important.
"Sevy, what are you doing?" he asked, his tone still as amused as his face looked.

"I'm saving your life, sir," she said tersely, not bothering to correct her name or even turn to face him. She instead stared dead ahead at Nicholas and his gun with a look of pure concentration on her face.
He's a regular, slow human, and I don't even think he can cast magic. I could hit him with a shuriken before he could pull the trigger...
Had she not had both hands on her sword, she may have done so, but she didn't want to make any sudden movements until she had to. Plus the Chancellor was acting strangely.
