"Alright then, Demetri. Why don't you go sit with Umitaheno over there." He gestured lightly at the Lycan boy and smiled at Demi.
Then he turned to survey the whole class. "Okay, so what we'll be learning today is, for you, Athor, Earthworks, a handy-dandy defensive spell." He created a small rift of earth on his desk as a demonstration. "And for you, Kirien, Mystic Strands, infinitely useful against those that are fond of guns and bows." He cast the spel on the air in front of him and threw a pencil like a dart through the area as another practical demonstration. The pencil shuddered and spiralled to the ground at an awkward angle. "And you guys..." he said hesitantly, looking at Umi and Demi. "You get Cure." He waggled his fingers around dramatically.
"Any questions before we start the lesson in earnest?"

Athor was ecstatic to get started, knocking over most of his stuff as he scrabbled to get a vessel. He came up with a clear orb, no bigger that a snow globe. He clenched it so hard his knuckles turned white as he turned his full attention to Torin. He was ready to learn his first honest to goodness official spell. He practiced flowing his energy through the Orb, making it glow faintly.
The Orb was one of his favourite vessels. He had a pair of gloves, a metal rod, a wooden rod, and a fairly old dreamcatcher to name a few.

Kirien looked bored. Learning 'mystic strands' didn't exactly appeal to her. Learing any defensive magic didn't exactly appeal to her. She wanted to do something exciting and fun, like burn things or blow things up or smash things or sever things. Maybe this class wasn't for her. She couldn't think of what possessed her to enroll in it.
I should see about taking charms and curses instead...
She nodded at Torin mechanically when he told her the spell she'd be learning, and shook her head side-to-side when he asked if they had questions. How could we have questions? He hasn't even said anything confusing! It's like starting class with 'Hi, welcome to class, any questions?' I have a question. Do we have any teachers with brains at this place?! If so, do they use them?
She blinked and shook her head again like a wet dog trying to dry off. She was drifting off, but trying desperately to remain alert as ever. Three seconds in and I'm bored. He should get an award: most pathetic teacher ever. And he's supposed to be Mister-Famous-and-Powerful?
She tilted her head to the side. He'd look good with a spike in his head. She glanced to Athor, who seemed to be playing with a...glowing...snowglobe? What is that thing supposed to be?

Late?! Now that just would not do! Riana couldn't run per say, at least not as she was, but she could walk fast, and that is what she did. She had been so excited about this class she had lost track of time on her last break, and with her movement disability that made getting to class on time when you fell behind quite difficult. She only hoped the professor wouldn't be too mad at her, she hated to make people mad at her. She was about to open the door when the small amount of formal manners in her head reminded her. When you are late, you should...
Regaining her composure she stood tall, or as tall as the small girl could, and knocked on the closed classroom door. This was the right thing for people to do, wasn't it?

"No questions? All right then. Kirien, I think I'll begin with you. Now, for---"
This was the particular moment at which the door was knocked upon. Torin looked at it curiously, and after a moment's pause, decided he should probably go see what all the noise was for, lest it insist upon interrupting further. He strode briskly and stiffly to the door with his familiar limp that he refused to address and swung it inward.
"You know, we're in the middle of a class," he said with the voice of a stern and yet gentle father. His eyes gazed at the level he assumed the interruption to be at, but upon finding nothing there they lowered until they found a subject to land on. "So you should probably get in here quick before you miss anything," he continued, this time with a smile on his face. He opened the door fully and moved to the side, holding it open with one hand and gesturing into the classroom with the other.
He said nothing of it, and if asked would probably dodge the question, but the reason for his shift in judgement was that the has spotted the young elf's oak walking stick. He did not pity her, no, far from it. He simply knew what it was like to have such a challenge with moving quickly, though he did his best to ignore his instead of embracing it; his own cane rarely left his bedroom. His own injury was far less grievous than hers, but still along the same lines.
"Your name and level, please, once you've settled in," Torin asked of the new arrival, making his own way back to his desk as soon as she cleared the doorway. "You can sit wherever you'd like for now."

Riana was worried for a moment when Torin chastised her, but then her smile returned triumphantly when she heard him tell her to take her seat once she had informed him who she was.
"Thank you sir!" She said pleasantly. "My name is Riana Nimberdove and my level is...um" She had to stop to think, what was all this level business he was asking now? She hadn't heard that mentioned yet. "I'm not sure, I just got here the other day..." She said, letting the sentence trail off.
She then wasted no time in finding a seat on the other side of Demetri. She shot him a happy smile before turning her attention back to their professor. He seemed like a nice man, perhaps all humans were this kind?

"Thank you miss!" Torin mirrored, equally pleasantly. "I would assume, if you've just arrived, that you are Level 1. Which means that you, like Athor here, will be learning Earthworks. I'm afraid you've missed the demonstration, but you'll see it soon enough."
He absentmindedly sat back down in his desk before he remembered he had been teaching someone something before the interruption. His gaze swept across the room, trying to remember where he had left off, and his eyes met Kirien's.
"Where were we, now..." he said aloud, but he mumbled the rest under his breath. "Let's see... Level 4, wasn't it? That would mean... Mystic Strands! Ah, yes." And in a normal tone of voice once more, "Mystic Strands; infinitely useful, yada yada yada. Right, now. To use this spell---"
He looked over at the rest of the class. "Feel free to pay attention to the theory, even though you won't be able to use this spell yet. It'll make it easier to learn in the future, I'm sure."
And back to Kirien. "To use this spell, it is very important that you visualize. You can't see Mystic Strands when they're done properly, unless they're shimmering from blocking an attack, but you have to picture them in your head to make the spell work. And I don't mean some vague interpretation of what they'd look like; you really have to see the Strands. The thicker you see them the better, because what you see is what will form. But I'm telling you right now, don't try to completely block things off with them, because it won't work and all you'll get is a headache. After the visualizing, you've just got to use the command word, assuring you've made contact with your vessel first, of course."
He stood up from his desk and walked around to the front of it. "Let me know when you think you're ready to try it out, and then come up here for a demo. If you think you'll be awhile that's fine; I'll just start with the next group. Good? Good."
