(Continued from here.) Billy and Ed's respective paces slowed a good deal when they finally reached the Training Grounds. It was deserted at the moment, but both were fresh recruits, they knew the area all-too-well and weren't fond of returning of their own accord. If you gave him half the chance, Billy would probably still complain about the pain in the knee he gouged open running the obstacle course, and Ed could probably point out the exact spot where he had been shot while taking a 'pee-break' during an exercise in the forest. And those incidents had been during daylight, a luxury they did not have now. They both shuddered. "Well, I guess now's the time we split up, Bill," said Ed, trying his best to sound like he didn't care. "Yeah. So... uh, take care of yourself Eddy," Billy said, avoiding eye-contact and rubbing his nose nonchalantly. They both hesitantly left and joined their respective Seraph escorts. Cylo, meanwhile, had just entered the area with Hendricks in tow.
"...told him he's probably right. But anyway, as much fun as the T-Grid talk has been, that's not what I meant by minor. I wanted to know what kind of spells you're familiar with. Just defensive or do you have some secondary knowledge?" Cylo didn't really mind either way; while knowledge in more than one field was useful, specializing in just one type of magic meant the user was that much more in tune with their specific type of magic. He had to admit, though, it would be quite advantageous if the guy could cast a mean Haste spell. Then he wouldn't slow Dieter and Cylo down nearly as much.
Of course, knowing Dieter, he had probably specifically chosen someone to slow them down just for a challenge. As if the darkness wouldn't make it bad enough already. Unlike Dieter, Cylo didn't have the luxury of natural night vision.
"So Dieter, what exactly are the rules for this shindig?" Cylo called out.

Hendricks stuttered, "well the thing is I only took some inventive courses. All I ever use for my offense is a modified cannon magnum and a couple deployable hidden mines. I designed them myself but they're nothing compared to what MAGI offers. I just find them a bit cheaper and somewhat easy to make. They'll at least startle you." Hendricks really speant all his time on working enchantments and on Defensive works. He pictured himself as being more of a mobile tech or engineer which would help in situations where things got really bad.
The Seraphs had already taken their respective escorts into the course. Sharice's group had hidden in a tree and the group had worked to camouflage their presence within the tree canopy. Helayanai and Ed went for cover underneath some of the obstacle course. Thomas's group hid in underbrush within the forest.
"The rules are such. No rules. Other than not killing each other and using flag spells use whatever combat melee you deem necessary to hit an opponent. If there is a blow to the head or a vital spot then you're dead. The exercise is over for you and you may kindly leave the area. Injuries are fine so long as they're healable. We're all grown ups now so don't hold it against anyone if you get shot in the knee to make hunting you easier. This will be like harsh reality and do as you would to survive. With that said. Let the hunt begin."

Cylo only gave a short nod in response to Hendricks' words. That suited him well enough. He'd have started spewing strategies to the guy had Dieter not chosen that moment to kick things off.
"Wait wait wait, you've explained the rules, but how do we win? Do I have to take out your Seraph's or just the pipsqueaks? Do they have to take out all three of us or just our pipsqueak -sorry Hendricks- to win?"
Though Cylo had given the impression that he was not ready to begin, he was not wasting time. While he listened for Dieter's response, and even while he was still talking, he had been sizing up the locations of the three teams. Team Ed was by far the closest and easiest to find, though navigating the obstacle course to do so would not be fun. Team Billy had run off into the forest; they would be hard to find but easy to get to. And Team Incredibly-Hot-Girl was in the forest too. Personally, he'd probably go after the forest ones first, before they had a chance to really dig in. Cylo and some of his buddies, back in his rookie days, had hid in the forest for three days once, until the Dragoon search-and-destroy team had to call things off and sign a written agreement not to take them out the moment they had shown themselves. The thing he took pride in most was that the Dragoons never figured out how they had known when the paper was signed. They hadn't expected any of the rookies to be able to use Spirit Travel already.
"Tell me again," said Billy, from his position lying down in the dirt, "why we're in the absolute easiest place to find? Do you like the obstacle course? Because if you do, you're nuts. Seriously. You'd have to be the type with a closet full of straight-jackets to enjoy this..."
"Tell me again," said Ed, from his position lying down in the dirt, "why we're in the absolute crappiest hiding spot? I'm being eaten alive here!" He swatted at a few bugs for good measure. "I don't know who made you guys Seraphs with this kind of decision-making..."

Thomas smiled, "opportunities for old traps. I laid my own pitfalls throughout the place that're magically triggered by command. Toutoa gave a wicked grin and whispered, "I've also put some glyph paper up for magic trip wire. I've got a couple spells I'll channel through those. Keep your head down. It'll be harder to make forcefields and shields cover more energy than necessary. We're at the disadvantage there." If billy were to speak another word Thomas would pull the duct tape from his pocket and put it over his mouth. "The less we have to work on wards the better. We want to have some surprise and not have to deal with barrages of bullets."
Meanwhile Ed huddled with the ladies underneath a section of the obstacle course. Helayanai whispered into his ear, "good place to move from, provide cover, and entrap pursuers. Especially if one of us were to channel energy into inactive minefield of caltrops readied to explode, or release construct tigers. Dieter'll probably go after the easier prey first working off those who use stealth and the forests. He's still got a lot of elf to him. You can count on that."
Kim, Sharice, and Mr. McCullic held out silently high in the tree, keeping camouflaged and keeping a set of binoculars watching the three as they approached. Kim kept his presence particularly well hidden and used a alter self to hide his claymore. It was still there and the subtle charm would wear off when he used it. It made them harder to find. Mr. McCullic erased their scent and kept the group well hidden.
Dieter laughed, "keep Hendricks protected, if they hit him they get the weekend off. If we get Billy, Sharice, or Ed, their respective team has lost. Doesn't mean we can't get the other seraphs first. I hope this'll entertain you some from your lost trip." Dieter leaned in a little closer, "if you take down Sharice it'll give you a chance to put her into a hold. Don't say I wasn't thinking of you man." Dieter chuckled.
"I doubt they want to make the first move. So which way?"
All Dieter had on him were his half a dozen knives for various impliments, a shortsword, and his rope dart. Well, that's just what he wore all the time. He had to put his thermas down. It'd only get in the way at this point. He had a monical he used to see infrared heat and "see" magical charges on certain traps (at least the more common ones), his gloves, ring, his lucky underwear, and a clay figurine of himself he could throw and produce an illusion of a double. He didn't know which traps and tricks exactly lain.
Dieter knew Kim and McCullic to be great at hiding and taking high ground. It usually helped them get the jump on others and humans didn't look up all that often. Thomas and the goblin were probably going to stick to the ground. Thomas knew how to do earthwall to a science and the goblin knew to use that cover well. The one that concerned Dieter the most was Helayanai. She knew his moves a little well and knew how to play the elven game of trap and run. The fact that she had taken a difficult terrain to pass meant she'd already warded it somehow.

(I screwed up the positions of the twins in my last post. I've fixed it, but now yours is off. There's no need to edit, just letting you know why it won't mesh anymore so as to not confuse anyone. Billy and Ed both stared at their respective escorts in awe, wondering how they had managed to plan so much out already. It was quite impressive, and Ed could only hope that one day he would as good a Seraph as the two he was with. Cylo stretched out his arms and legs as Dieter spoke, nodding at his words and smiling at the comment about Sharice. He would enjoy that.
"Well I suggest we take the ones in the forest first. Normally I'd just run in and take to the trees, but first of all, Hendricks wouldn't be able to keep up with us, and second of all, you're the only one out of us with night-vision goggles built into his head. That gives us an advantage though. You could use Alter Self to make yourself small or black and sneak right up on either of the groups without the goblin, because they wouldn't be able to see you coming in this dark. But it's up to you man. You know those guys better than I do."
All Cylo had on him was his gun and the clothes on his back, but that was all he needed.

Dieter chuckled, I could do that but that would hardly be in team spirit. Dieter put his hand over his mouth and spoke softly, "I like the idea of stealth but I prefer there to be a distraction. You should consider speaking very softly and holding your hand over your mouth. Lip readers love to know what we're planning. Ergo we can't go with the current plan. They're expecting it too much. I've got a much better idea. Cylo, I'll pretend to be you. We'll find them and see what we can't do to rattle them a bit. Do you think you could handle that?"
Dieter could see that everyone was poised for them to move. They knew better than to attack here in the open. Dieter held defensive capabilities and a speed which could not be matched by any present. It would be difficult to do even if they were ambushed. Each group wanted to maximize it's chance. Dieter began by sensing auras. It would keep him somewhat aware of any magical threats coming at him.
((Does a sense aura spell help you see through illusions like Alter self. I guess it'd make sense if it didn't work on people who're casting it at a far greater power level than you but I'm curious if there's a way to counteract that spell.))

(Not exactly. If Dieter was disguised as, say, a bird, then you would be able to tell it was an illusion because no bird should have that amount of magical power. Or if he was disguised as a goblin, you'd be able to tell he wasn't one because he wouldn't 'show up' as a natural caster. The only things Sense Aura tells you are basically 1) Generally how powerful someone is, magic-wise 2) If they are a natural caster and 3) It senses magical residue, such as that from magical traps, spells cast recently, etc. You could counteract Alter Self spell with Cancel, but you'd have to be at least as powerful as the caster to dispel it.)
Cylo put his hand to his mouth as well, as if he were coughing. "Well your plan sounds all right, but if they can see us, and they read our lips for the first plan, then when they see us talking like this, they'll probably assume we realize they're watching and now we're changing it. Going with the original plan might throw them off. But it's really up to you."
He gave Dieter's plan another moment of thought. "But if you're pretending to be me, what am I going to do? Pretend to be me too? Well, not pretend. You know what I mean. Because if we're trying to give the illusion that there's two of me, I'll have to slow down to your pace (no offense) to make it more believable. And they could use Sense Aura to figure out which one of us is more powerful, and thus place us as who we really are, if they were really thinking on their toes."
Cylo didn't like wasting so much time strategizing, but he knew they weren't dealing with amateurs, so it was a necessary evil.

"Precisely, there's a point at which I can give their visual the slip and fade to black, come up behind them and take them down. If there's two of you and they keep watching both of us then there'll be a good opportunity for it. They may be watching for the fade to black and try to strike out. I'll be ready with a force field or shield if that's the case. I suggest we go after the one's in the grass then Hendricks move a little too close to the tree. I'll keep the guard on Hendricks and you hit them hard from there." Dieter kept his hand over his mouth. Those who were going to try and listen would have a really hard time and lip reading was impossible.

"Okay, sounds good to me. Who's in the grass though?" Cylo, unlike Dieter, did not know the Seraphs well enough to predict where they were hiding in the forest, and he wouldn't enjoy walking in there without intel. As he spoke, he tucked his chin to his chest so as not to be lip-read, since he was now using his hands to disassemble his gun, check all the parts out, and reassemble it. Years of practice and demonic speed allowed him to complete the familiar motion in a flash.
Once his equipment checked out, he began walking toward the forest. It was pretty far away; they wouldn't have to worry about being in range for a good while.

Dieter put the alter self on. He appeared exactly as Cylo. Dieter even made sure the knife he held would appear like a gun. Props always help illusions. Dieter decided to project his mind into Cylo's and then brief Hendricks on what they were to expect. To them both he said, It's Thomas the punker and the goblin Toutoa on the ground. You can expect some spikes from Thomas and be wary of where the goblin is at all times. She likes to sneak up on you while Thomas does something flashy. I'm reading the aura and they have some pitfalls set up. Keep an eye on where you step.
Dieter continued with Hendricks and Cylo toward the woods.
((Feel free to do some things with the NPC's I created. Except for the elf. I have a few picky things on how I want to use her.))

Cylo eyed the forest in the distance with distaste. At this pace, it would take them ages to get there. Hendricks was slowing them down ridiculously, not that it was his fault or anything. Cylo eyed the young man down for a moment before finally speaking.
"Hey Hendricks, why don't you hop on my back? 'Cause no offense, but you're slowing us down bud. I'll put you down at the forest and you can do your own thing as long as you're careful."
Cylo was careful to keep his suggestion just that; a suggestion. He didn't want to insult anyone's manly honour by offering to carry them.
From their respective hiding places, both of the twins shuffled around for a moment before turning, nearly in unison, to their superiors.
"I have to, uh, you know, relieve myself..." whispered Billy, not exactly comfortable telling the older women this.
"I have to piss like a racehorse!" whispered Ed insistently, not caring what the two with him thought of that.

Hendricks leaped onto Cylo's back and then said, "you know I've always wanted to ride a Demon. I never thought it would be a guy or be under these circumstances."
Dieter chuckled, then pulled a few needles out from some of the folds in his outfit. He started throwing them at a variety of different wards and traps Thomas and Kim had left behind them. It was definitely going to be hard to trace them but since they were in a rush they had left a few tracks. These would've been hard to spot in the dead of night if it wasn't for Dieter's superb sight. He made steady tracks advancing on Thomas and Toutoa.
Thomas looked at Ed and handed him a jar that came out of thin air. "Next time don't forget your jar. They're very useful and important." Toutoa looked away. She'd been working with Thomas for years and the whole peeing in a Jar thing always disgusted her. Do you want to save that for later? She guessed it did come in handy if they were holed up somewhere.
Helayanai looked at the boy and then said, "was it a curse? Did anyone cast anything on you before you came out here? Dieter would do something like that. If you just need to go and so long as you don't piss hydrochloric acid go in the corner and we'll keep you covered. If you make one thingy joke I swear you will regret it." Helayanai had always hated men that would look for any excuse to get a girl to look at his thingy. She thought the jokes were crude, uncultured, and degrading to both parties of the joke. She felt it prudent to discourage people from making those jokes even quicker.

((I appear to have forgotten about this one ><;; It's been almost a month, though; you should've been yelling at me by now! )) "Funny guy, aren't you Jimmy?" Cylo said sarcastically. "But you don't want to ride a demon anyway; they'll shatter your pelvic bone without breaking a sweat. And then you'll just look stupid, not to mention being in excruciating pain." Cylo's tone was scary-serious, but it would be up to Hendricks to determine whether or not he was reciting factual side-effects, or just stretching the truth. Cylo himself was content to simply follow Dieter along, careful to avoid anything suspicious-looking. He knew Dieter was capable, but he wouldn't blame the vampire if he missed a trap or two."A curse?" repeated Billy incredulously. "Are you serious? There's a curse to make people have to, er, urinate? That's disgusting." But either way, he had to go, so he headed off to the corner to do what it was he had to do. "A jar?" repeated Ed incredulously. "Are you serious? You want me to piss in a jar? That's disgusting." But Thomas looked dead serious, so Ed took the jar and crawled away from the others a short distance. After peering behind him to make sure no one was staring he attempted to relieve himself, but he found that doing so whilst lying down wasn't working too well for him. "Screw it..." he muttered to himself, before he stood and walked around to the backside of a tree and began doing what it was he had to do.

Hendricks didn't care. He didn't want to be a burden and could cast a few good healing spells to buff up his pelvis. He said, "don't worry I'll be fine."
Dieter noticed Ed in the woods. A perfect target. Dieter signaled Cylo to move in for the attack. You two distract the seraphs. I'll get in for the hit on Ed. Careful now.

Cylo nodded his agreement with this plan, giving Hendricks the signal to shut up. He cast Dawn Charm on himself and on the young man, dropped him behind a tree, and took off at top speed, more or less disappearing from sight as he jumped into a tree.
He reappeared, of all places, on top of the two Seraphs, one foot on each of their prone backs. He figured the ground around them would be booby-trapped, so the safest place would be right on top of them.
"Hey guys, do you have the time?" he asked mischievously.
Ed heard Cylo speak and his blood ran cold. Sh** sh** sh** piss faster Ed! he thought fervently, rushing to finish up and go help the others. He was just glad they'd only sent one after them. Apparently they had decided to split up.
