Kirien Melantha had been looking forward to going to Raewyn Island's sports center for quite some time. She had done nothing but study for too long, and she wanted nothing more than to knock the stuffing out of a punching bag. The closest thing she'd had to a fight was the 'fight' she had with Cylo a while back, if anyone could call that a fight. He didn't seem to be able to decide if he really wanted to fight or not! And to make matters worse, he decided to just take a nap right in front of her! He was a terrible sparring partner.
I'd probably have cut him in half if he didn't use that stupid turn-skin-to-granite spell! That's cheating! She reminisced, brows furrowing as she recalled their meeting. Maybe he'll be here again. I'll have to beat him up twice as bad if he is!
But when she got to the sports center, she found that, to her horror, it had already closed. Hopefully, she tried the front doors several times, hoping that the 'closed' sign had ended up where it was not supposed to be, but they really were closed and locked. She angrily kicked the door, which shuddered at the contact. "UUGH!"
She paced in circles, contemplating chopping up some trees - axes were good at that, and it certainly beat reading. Reluctantly, she wandered away from the sports center.
I'm going to find whoever made it be closed and make them eat their stomach! Hehehe...

Kirien narrowed her eyes when the hooded stranger approached and questioned her. She was put off by his asking why she was out so late. It wasn't that late - was it? - and she was more than capable of fending for herself. Just because she looked like a sweet, helpless little girl...
She quickly realized her mistake - she visibly expressed how annoyed she was - and made to cover it up. Her brown eyes went wide, and she blinked a couple times, as if confused as to why a stranger had approached her. Her plan was to make Morin believe she had only narrowed her eyes at him because she was upset the sports center was closed. If her act was good enough, and he didn't notice the brief narrowing-of-the-eyes, she wouldn't even have to do that!
He was much too far away and covered up for her to tell that he was actually blind, and it was a good thing. If she knew she was wasting her efforts, she'd be very upset!
"Um, well, I was planning on going to the sports center...but when I got there, it was already closed!" She gave a dramatic pause, so as to make herself sound more depressed about her 'horrible' situation. "It's never closed..." She trailed off, her voice growing soft and distant. She didn't even ask who Morin was, or what he wanted. She was much too busy with the 'I'm so upset, feel sorry for me' act to consider someone else.

Kirien was getting annoyed with the chatty stranger standing before her. His cheery demeanor was quickly wearing on her, and she never was a fan of 'casual' conversation.
He's really annoying and he won't stop talking! Maybe I can stab him in the mouth and then he won't talk anymore! Hehehe...
"I guess." She hadn't thought about what she was going to do. She'd fully expected that the sports center be open, and hadn't come up with an alternative plan. Now that she had found it wasn't, she had been so busy being angry about having nothing to do that she hadn't come up with anything to do. "My focus is offensive magic."

Kirien couldn't help but wonder why Morin was still talking to her. She couldn't imagine that he would be truly interested in what a stanger was studying at school. It was almost as if he was looking for something. The conversation started out normally enough (though she didn't believe one could participate in small-talk so long, either), but the questions he asked her led to more questions.
He's asking me stuff to see if he can ask me more stuff? She gave Morin a suspicious look, and appeared as if she was trying to read something from his body language. If he does anything weird I'll chop him up and give him to the stupid sports-center-closer!
When he asked about TI the red flag went up. He was definitely up to something...and how did he know that she didn't like rules? She did her absolute best to project the most convincing 'good girl' image she could muster!
"What do you want?" She queried sharply. No, she didn't much like TI's rules, especially the ones stating that she couldn't randomly fight with whoever she wanted to. But she didn't need to announce that. He seemed like he already knew, or at least, he thought he knew.

"You're a vampire." Kirien accused, certain that he had just read her mind. She knew that she didn't mention chopping him up aloud, which meant he could only be a vampire. He's really bad at disguising himself.
"I'm Kirien." She offered, after he had given her his name. She was never wary of giving out her name. She didn't believe that one could do much with it, anyway. "You're in that cult that wants to summon Aretas?" It was said among demons that removing Aretas from the demon realm would cause him to die. She didn't dislike Aretas enough to want him to die, nor like him enough to keep him alive.
"What do I get from joining?" She pressed, as she considered her options. On the plus side, she wouldn't have to deal with TI's silly rules and regulations. She would probably have many powerful people to fight. The cult members might offer her some protection. But on the other hand...maybe they wouldn't. Maybe they would order her about only to use her strength. Maybe when she needed their help, they would have more 'important' things to worry about. What would she do about money? Would she still be able to have her job? Would she be paid for her involvement in the cult?
The promise of an 'entrance test' intrigued her. She always liked chances to prove herself. But wouldn't fighting Morin be fun?
He's blind, but he's still looking at me.

She was surprised that Morin could come up with as many "reasons to join" as he had. She expected him to get annoyed with her questions; she knew not to ally herself so hastily. She expected him to give up on recruiting her and attack. She deemed that such a childish action suited his childish demeanor.
She carefully considered the reasons he gave her. He mentioned that they would travel a lot. She didn't like nor dislike traveling; she didn't care much where she was as long as she had fun. However, a job at TI or work as a freelance adventurer both gave promises of travel. It alone wouldn't be enough to convince her.
Then he said she could be trained by strong people. That caught her attention, not necessarily because she could be trained, but because it meant there were worthy opponents for her to fight. But, again, was it enough? She could find a worthy opponent anywhere, if she looked hard enough, and he or she didn't necessarily have to be a wacko cultist. The access to necromantic magic was also a plus, but there had to be other ways of learning it than by joining a cult.
Money was never much concern of hers. She didn't mind working, but she didn't mind not working, but did the Aretas Immortalis Cult offer the best she could get for her work?
She was going back and forth on whether or not to join. On one hand, she'd be encouraged to fight and kill. On the other, if someone else ever offered her a better deal, she would be unable to take it; if she left, the cult would hunt her.
"You joined 'cause it's fun for you? Do you like fighting, Morin?" She giggled in delight. They had something in common.

"I like fighting, too! I guess you'd assume I'd want to join your group if it meant I could fight a lot, huh? But I can already fight a lot! I can fight anyone I want to! That man over there..." She tilted her head in the direction of a middle-aged passerby. "I could fight him. Right now. I could break into this place and fight anyone who might be still inside!"
She shifted her weight from foot to foot, giving the appearance to any who could see her that she was dancing or swaying in place. In truth, she was getting restless and a little nervous. Morin probably didn't want to hear her talk, and she knew it. So she spoke more quickly this time, taking care that her words don't jumble together.
"I could fight a lot. I could have fun...and I won't get in trouble for it, because it'd just be my job. But I can't fight whoever I want to, whenever I want to, however I want to. I can't refuse to fight someone I don't want to fight that they do want me to fight, or they'll kill me. I really would have to deal with stupid rules! It's all the same. TI and the Aretas Immortalis Cult promise the same things: wealth, security, power, entertainment, travel. You allied yourself with people you don't even agree with, really, right? You don't even like doing a lot of the stuff they make you do! You...gave up your freedom."
She knew she sounded a lot like she was declining his offer, which she was. She knew she'd probably have to fight him. On one hand, she was excited, ever eager to test herself against what could be a worthy opponent. On the other...she was uneasy. He was a vampire, and even though he was blind, he seemed to have little trouble in locating her. Vampires were very fast by nature. So were demons, but...not her. If he could out-move her she was in big trouble. She needed a back-up plan, and fast.
"I won't join! I fight for myself, and nobody is gonna push me around!" She fished around her pockets, trying to find where she had put her axe this time. Left pocket..."Let's play, Morin!" She gave a girlish giggle and immediately bounced backward, getting out of the way in case Morin wanted to make a quick attack. The axe she removed from her pocket lay in her hand like a toy soldier's weapon, but it shimmered and grew full-size. It had to be somehow enchanted.
(Weapon approved.)

Kirien preferred to adhere to as little rules and restrictions as possible; she liked to fight, but she fought only who she wanted to. Joining an organization would rob her of that; she would be slave to the orders of the higher-ups. Maybe one day she would choose a side...but right now, she wouldn't be Kirien Melantha of Thaumaturgy International, nor Kirien Melantha of the Aretas Immortalis Cult. She was just herself, and that's how she liked it.
"I know you can get out, but it's not easy. They will try and get you!" She said matter-of-factly, rolling her eyes at Morin's 'revelation.' Hehehe! Does he really think he tricked me? He's really overconfidant.
She tightened her grip on her battleaxe and rushed her opponent, taking a testing, horizontal swipe at him. If she made contact already, she would be very disappointed; she hated fights that ended too soon. She loved to win and hated to lose, but if her opponent fell to her first swing, he was not worth fighting at all!
"Don't call me demon lady. I'm not old!" She demanded childishly. It was true; in demon years, she was only about five years old, where she looked about sixteen. But with his blindness and her voice to go on alone, it would be hard for Morin to gauge her age; demons did age strangely.

Kirien's eyes narrowed dangerously when Morin called her 'demon lady' again. He had probably done it just to annoy her, and it worked. She was sick of his chattering in general; couldn't he just shut up and fight like everyone else?
At his warning, she rolled her eyes impatiently and took another horizontal swing at him. Her moves were predictable and repetitive, but she wasn't exactly going all-out. She seemed to have realized he was holding himself back to watch her movements. She wasn't going to show him what she could really do until he fought back.
"You should worry about yourself!" She replied confidently. She thought that playing with Morin could be fun, but she was starting to doubt that he could do anything but dodge in the first place!
He's just standing around! Hmph! He must not be very fun to play with, at all!

The redhead stubbornly ignored Morin's question, and refused to reply when he supposed that she might not have made a good recruit. She didn't want to talk, she wanted to fight! Maybe if she refused to give him any verbal feedback he would give up and keep his mouth shut. She did give him an offended "hmph," unable to let his comments slide completely.
She dodged his attack just barely, even though she was expecting it. She quickly moved back, hoping that his limbs would not be long enough to reach her, but they nearly did; her last-minute, ungraceful dash to the right prevented him from making contact. She might not want to admit it, but he was faster than her; she couldn't fight him like just anyone. When facing an opponent with a speed advantage, the first thing she should do is even the odds, by boosting her own speed or lowering his.
She tapped the pendant she wore around her neck, and muttered "Slow!" as quietly as she could. She was hoping that Morin wouldn't be able to hear her, but he probably had very good hearing, given his species and his blindness. Didn't they say that when one loses control of one sense, the others highten?
Ironically, Kirien was thinking about the same thing about Morin that he was thinking about her: He's so boring! Can't he do something interesting?
