Name: Gareth Beaumain
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown; although, he seems to be in his twenties
Education: AofT
Personality: Gareth seems to be quite simple at first: cold, fickle, and neutral. He seems to have mostly killed off his own emotions for personal and business reasons. Sometimes a spark of some kind will show itself in Gareth, but you'd have a better chance of getting a response from an acorn. He's loyal to whoever paying the bigger bill. Gareth could be your best assassin one day and then his blade could be pointed at your throat the next. He refuses to become a soldier, and instead only works on single jobs. Gareth has no preference toward one side of the conflict or another. It's not his problem--he's just getting paid for it.
He's quiet most of the time. Some would think its some self-consciousness about the fact that his voice has a slight computerized tone in it. If you get Gareth talking about it somehow, he'll say its just because there's nothing interesting to talk about.
Make any remarks about him or any of his 'additions' and you'll soon meet a sloppy, more bar-fight oriented version of Gareth. Until he's thrown out or beaten, he'll fight on, ignoring gender. Hey, everyone's equal.
Despite being what one might call 'cold', he adheres to his own set of values:
1. Never reveal information about an employer given to me by said employer, no matter how much is paid to make me tell it.
2. Complete the mission no matter what, unless of course, its a trap set by the employer.
3. Don't kill unnecessarily.
Magical Combat:
Gareth isn't very proficient in healing, offensive, or defensive (he really can't use it at all); however, he is unusually gifted with charms and curses. Gareth doesn't usually use magic during battle unless some sort of stealth is the key.
Physical Combat:
Gareth prefers close-quarters combat above-all. Small, concealed weapons are his bread and butter, his favorite being the short blade that comes out of his right leather gauntlet. His left arm is now completely Magi-Tech, making it stronger, faster, and more durable than his right. Along with that, he also has a khukuri knife concealed somewhere on his person; although, that place is always different. Also, don't be surprised to see some throwing knives on him.
History: Gareth was originally an average human with some not-so-average abilities, thus he came to the Academy of Thaumaturgy. He studied there, being the quiet kid in the class in the back corner, seemingly not excelling in anything. He hated offensive, defensive, and healing magic mostly because he couldn't do anything in it, but did enjoy the charms and curses. While careful to not draw attention to himself, he purposefully flunked a couple of tests. The teachers didn't understand why, and Gareth never explained it to them.
After graduation, he went on to work for TI as an Asset. He continued to work until he was considered for promotion into a Shadow, that is, if he could prove himself by infiltrating a high-ranking Aretis meeting. This was where downhill met a new meaning.
It went well, that is, until one of the members caught on and waited until afterwards. The member trapped Gareth and began to play a favorite game: The Torture Game. First was the mental destruction: the man cast a spell on him, essentially corrupting his mind and distorting fact from fiction--reality from imagination. Next was the magical removal of his mouth. After all, he didn't need Gareth screaming for the rest, did he? All that came out of where his mouth once was was incoherent ramblings that were whisper-volume. Next was the removal of a limb, of course. Luck chose the left arm, and it was slowly and painfully removed by a battleax. Blood-curdling screams tried desperately to escape from Gareth, but to no avail. Next choice was his eye; although, the torturer wanted to cut through the eye and the skull at once. A slow beginning incision was made down the left side of his face with a knife, actually quite deep. Needless to say, it scarred. He was only saved by a Shadow who had intervened in the last moment. The Shadow momentarily fought him off, but only with the element of surprise. Gareth took this opportunity to run. With veins pumping fear and battery acid, he somehow escaped to a rendezvous point.
He was returned to TI and, seeing the state he was in, was chosen for an experimental procedure. His left arm was replaced by a prototype Magi-Tech one, not even able to disguise itself. Then the facemask and tubes were put in. The facemask was the power generator and the tubes provided the passageway to pump vocal sounds and air in and out. Finally was an addition to his mind. Because of the strength of the magic, it was impossible to dispel it, so bits and pieces of his brain had to be replaced with Magi-Tech. The larger-than-normal amount of magic in his body apparently kept him living longer and staying young.
Not many people bounce back from an ordeal like that; Gareth wasn't one of them. He resigned and disappeared, only publicly reappearing in a pub years later. Gareth returned with his service for hire, expanded skills, and a new demeanor.
Appearance: Gareth has short, chocolate brown hair. Running down from his forehead, past his right eye is a long and nasty scar that he received the same time as when he lost his left arm. His two, vividly green eyes seem like they're gateways to a Paradise lost to the ages. They seem to distract from the lower part of his face. Gareth's facemask seems to be made of a metal of some kind, with visible pathways of magic. Tubes run from that directly down to his neck. The facemask and tubes are extremely durable and almost unbreakable; however, someone strong enough can still break them. Gareth has a defined build and stands at a little under six feet.
For clothes, he usually wears an old, worn out jacket and a regular T-shirt underneath. Khaki seems to be a popular choice for him, as does the pair of combat boots that he always wears. He has two leather gauntlets that run up to his arm: the right one is outfitted with the short-blade hole and is fingerless, while the left is completely covered.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Hand-to-hand/Close Quarter Combat
+Charms/Curses
+Stealth
+Free Running
+Extended lifespan
+Increased Strength/Durability in the left arm
-Firearms, bows, etc.
-Medium-High amounts of electricity
-Severed Tubes
-Broken facemask
-While the magic in him gives him an extended lifespan, it also makes it easier for the original caster to manipulate him when in the vicinity.
Fears:
-Doctors
-Needles
-His Torturer
