The original "spacious work area" had long since given way under a tide of books, papers, and various research paraphernalia. The "simple desk" lay somewhere under several stacks of paper. If you looked hard enough, there was an "IN" tray and an "OUT" tray. Most of the time, the "OUT" tray had a cup of coffee on it.
Usually there were a couple of comfortable chairs scattered about the office, waiting for students or other visitors to occupy them. One would have to shift some books or something equally scholarly, but it was possible. And generally worth it: MM took great pains to make the chairs as appealing as possible.
A jar of sweets sat at the far end of the desk. Most of the student had at least heard of MM's jar, if they haven't selected one for themselves. The Dean firmly believed that sweets could make one's day all the more better, and therefore dispensed them liberally.
On the wall hung the Dean's certifications, or at least what looked like them. In addition were pictures of him with some of the more important people. However, nearly everyone knew that the most important picture perched, an oasis in the middle of disarray, on his desk. The picture: a smiling Dean Mosley with an arm around an equally joyous President Galatea, taken when the Dean received his position.
As always, his door was open, propped there by a couple of books. Usually students wouldn't bother to search through the mess to look for anything of value... And Mosley believed in being available at all times for his students.
