Athor finally settled his bags in what seemed to be his dorm. He opened the door to two beds, a table, a small television set and two desks. It was all really barren, and by luck of the numbers he didn't have a roomie yet. He unpacked his things on the right side of the room, adding a few plants near the windows, hanging up his bow, unpacking his clothes. He stood back and almost laughed at the contrast between the once identical sides, then stretched and went out to explore the place.

Umi had been entangled in an intricate yoga pose when he saw someone new walk by his open door, and decided it would be worthwhile to see what was happening. By the time he disentangled himself, changed out of his practice clothes and into something more presentable, and made his way outside, the boy he had seen earlier was now leaving a room, free of his bags.
He stood silently in the frame of his door, not far from where the other boy was, and regarded him with curiosity disguised pretty well as indifference. He appeared to be an elf, which was a race Umi truly loved (perhaps even moreso than a Lycan would normally), but he would nonetheless refuse to approach the younger boy first. For all Umi knew, he could be just another loud, obnoxious, bully-type. Safer to carefully observe first.

Athor turned around to catch a glimpse of a tall, Lycan kid. Kid wasn't really the right word, as he looked well over his age. Athor had a quick internal struggle
Talk to him! What would I say? Does it matter?! You aren't asking him out! EW! Well that's what you sounded like, I'm just saying. But still... Look, you have no friends, Lycans are close to nature, Elves are close to nature, DO THE MATH! Fine!
Athor walked up to the older Lycan with as much confidence as he could muster. "Er... Hi... um... I'm Athor... Apex. I mean my name's Athor, but my other name is Apex. Not my other name, my last name. My surname, um... is that even what surname means? I'm pretty sure, but then again, it could only be for married woman. WAIT that's maiden name! How silly of me... how old is the term maiden name anyway! I mean who says maiden anymore? I'm an elf, and there are lots of our painti9ngs with maidens in them... Isn't it wierd about how Veiled humans think of us? Like those carton... characters..." His voice trailed off.

OOC: Lycans aren't easily differentiable from humans at first glance, for future reference, but it's cool Umi was a tad surprised when the boy turned around to address him. He guessed that he must have felt the eyes staring at him on some subconcious level. As Athor began his halting speech, Umi's stoic expression gave way and an eyebrow perked higher with every word. The gesture may have seemed condescending had he not also been developing a grin at the same time. Secretly he thought it was nice to talk to someone who seemed more inept at talking to new people than him.
"Hello Athor, my name is Umitaheno Kai. You could call me Umi if you wanted, it is a lot easier to say."
This was a fact he had learned the hard way. The speed at which he said his out-of-the-ordinary name left a lot of people scratching their heads, and he often had to nearly spell it out before people understood it. Which is why he settled for Umi, even if he considered it an affront his beautiful full name to shorten it as such.
"Do you like cartoons? I am a fan of them, myself. I like to watch anime when I can get my hands on some," he asked in his quiet, flowing voice. Some said his voice was closer to an elf's than a Lycans, as if they expected all Lycans to growl everything they said. Not that Umi took offense to this comparison.

Athor was glad that Umi had responded, although the eyebrow lifting was a bit intimidating, even though it was obviously in good humor. He shrugged, and somewhat less nervously responded. "I don't watch much television. Too boring for me. I read most of the time though!" He gestured at a large book in his hand. He whispered, not realizing that Umi could hear him "Umitaheno Kai." He loved the sound of it. Umitaheno, Umitaheno, Umitaheno.... He laughed out loud. "Your name sounds so.... cool!"

Umi nodded at Athor's words; he could see where he was coming from, thinking television was boring. He was almost glad that the boy was not a typical, sit-in-front-of-the-TV-all-day teenager. In fact, he quickly learned that the boy liked to read.
"Well if you do not like television, there is always manga," he said amiably. "I read them a lot, but I like regular books as well. It is nice to be able to create a character's appearance for yourself some times, instead of having an artist dictate how they look."
He regarded the other curiously as he whispered his name, mildly surprised at how correct the pronunciation was, and then laughed lightly when Athor did so too and called his name 'cool'.
"Thank you, Athor," he said with a smile, still leaning on the door frame. "You name is quite interesting too. I do not believe I have ever heard anything quite like it before. It almost sounds like a protagonist from the sort of books I like."

Athor laughed nervously at that. "Um... thanks.... do you know any magic?!" The question blurted out, having contained it for such a long time. He immediately regretted it, and smiled weakly.
(OOC: AARG! SHORT POST! sorry... didn't know how to respond.)

Umi couldn't help but laugh again as Athor spouted his question, but it wasn't a mean laugh. He didn't have a mean bone in him, really. He'd either ignore you with a passion or be friendly, if somewhat shy.
"I know some..." he said, letting his voice trail off. He really didn't like to show off his magic, especially in front of people he didn't know well, because he always felt like it was an attention-grab. And not necessary. But if the boy asked...

"Really? What kind? ImeanI'mreallyinterestedincharmsbutoffensiveanddefensivemagiciscooltoo,evenacurseortwo!HowmuchmagiccanyoudoImeanyoudon'tlooklikeafinalyearbutnotafreshmanhuh?"
The promise of a discovery made him talk unbearably fast, but on the bright side, his nervousness had melted away.

Umi blinked, a little surprised by the sudden torrent of words coming at him. He took a moment to sort out what he had heard after Athor stopped speaking before even attempting to answer him. Was magic really that exciting? He'd never really thought of it that way, himself. It was just a useful tool.
"Well, I can use defensive magic as well as Charms. I can do curses too, but I do not like too," he paused, and diverted his eyes. "Offense is not my thing."
It was sort of an understatement. Umi would never hurt anyone unless they tried to hurt him, and even then he'd do his best to avoid it. There was enough pain and suffering in the world without him contributing to it. He glanced curiously at the boy; he had pinned his age down pretty well. Umi usually managed to either come off as older or younger than he actually was, due to his looks and intelligence, respectively.
"I'm Level 3, so I can cast a good amount of spells..." he said, still reluctant to do so without being asked directly.

Athor sat down. "So, come on!" He rocked back and forth, waiting for Umi to show him something. "How 'bout a charm?! Those are cool!"

Well, he asked for it.
Umi thought for a moment, wondering what spell he should cast.
"Um... Throw something at me," he said. "That book will do."
