Dieter Helyanwe
Gender: Male
Age: 1458 (appears to be in his early 20's)
Race: Vampire (elf originally)
Nationality: Vampire (acts like an American and is often using American English)
History:
Back when it was perfectly acceptable for humans to abandon children in their back woods to get kidnapped by witches and later get eaten by something worse Dieter was born in the black forest in Germany. By the time he had matured he'd broken every convention, rule, and taboo that elven society had. His parents couldn't do anything but apologize when he'd shout, "screw table manners," lap up his food, then chug his drink. Although he was an abysmal guest never invited to the same place twice he did excel at one thing, fighting. Before he'd come of age he'd fought all of his peers and had a keen intellect for spotting enemies weaknesses and would win all of his little skirmishes with young elves. Some of the adults were impressed by the fact that he'd beat a group of five to nine kids on his own.
Unfortunately his knack for disobeying rules got him in a bit more than he could handle as an elf. One night, on a dare, he sneaked past the border guards at the woods to see what humans were really like. He couldn't believe they were as savage as his elders made them out to be. The way he figured it, 9 times out of 10 they were full of crap anyway. He was right about the humans, but didn't anticipate a vampire to be haunting this village for food. At the town's tavern Dieter (as he called himself in this town), met Razul, a fickle vampire with power to spare.
Dieter got into ranting about elven society to Razul, assuming he'd be a human that no one would believe anyway. Razul recognized that Dieter had many unseen talents, magical and physical, that the elves had merely glanced over because of his unconventionality. He decided that Dieter's many talents would be wasted on the elves' lack of a certain kind of insight. Thus Razul decided to bring him into the fold. After all, he would be doing Dieter a favor.
Dieter, in his naivety and youth missed some of the obvious signs of his late night companion being a vampire and completely missed the innuendo at his vampiric embrace. After the initial shock, he was quite glad that it happened. He was taught magic and learned weapons in China. Over centuries of grueling training with Razule (whose nature it was to curse you and leave you to die at sunrise as a casual test) Dieter learned the skills necessary to be an agent of the council of Elders.
Like his master, Razul, Dieter showed a predilection for curses. However, unexpected to Razul, Dieter had a real knack for Defensive magic. He'd be able to come up with tricks on the fly that made him heal faster, shield him at just the right moment for quick strikes that came from odd directions and follow with a clever curse. The Council used his unique and keen intellect to work incognito cases in both the human world and the coven. He was renowned as a skillful worker completing any task given to him. As time wore on he gained greater wisdom so many councilors found his advice and observations helpful. He often would act as a body guard to Council members always operating from the shadows. It wasn't until the 1850's that he decided he wanted a piece of the American action.
With a request for supervision of America. He worked as the Council's eyes and ears as well as making sure the vampires didn't get out of hand. Little did he know that there would be a huge staging ground by the Aretas Immortalis Cult. During the Civil War he fought nightly battles with the Cult and their demons. They used waves of dead civil war soldiers to hunt operators of TI. Dieter could not stand by that. He organized many Demon desserters, Lycans, and remaining vampires strike back at the Cult. Just with enough ferocity to make cities somewhat bearable for vampires to live in.
After he saw through the Industrial Revolution and watched the Elves get some forests protected by "good o'l Teddy," as Dieter refers to Roosevelt. He decided he would do some vacationing. He asked the Council for a leave of absence which was granted unanimously. He partied pretty hard until 1929. He found "the Great Depression" as a sort of buzz kill. So he decided to nap for about 54 years.
When he woke up he reported back to the Council of Elders and they stated that they needed someone to represent their good will to TI. Things were going well in The Coven but the Aretas Immortalis Cult was all but inactive. With a smile he went to apply for work at TI.
The day he showed up to TI's New York Offices there was an attack by Aretas Immortalis Cultists. The Seraph in charge had fallen and the rest of the Seraphs were struggling at the front gates as they seemed to pour from every manhole, rooftop, and taxicab. There couldn't have been a happier coincident to show his skills. He shielded any soldiers, dragoons, seraph or civilian he could. After clearing most of the field and helping the Seraph to re-establish a perimeter he helped with counterattacks and was found to be one of the most important factors in routing the attack in a short and decisive manner.
TI reviewed his skills and decided that he would make an excellent head Seraph and works primarily on top priority missions, protecting the most essential of dragoons and diplomats.
Appearance:
Dieter stands at about 5'8" and has a muscular build. He has long black hair and fiery crimson eyes. He often disguises his features a bit or relies on the excuse of this new contacts thing to cover for his odd eye color. He enjoys wearing what he considers to be very comfortable clothing. What that means is that he goes on a whim based on what feels comfortable. If going to a meeting with his recruits and training them all day in his plaid sweat pants and no shirt seems most comfortable, so be it. He does draw the distinction that clothes can symbolize respect. Thus if he dresses casually, he thinks of you as a comrade or friend, if he dresses formally it means he respects you, if he should show up uninvited and naked to your sister's wedding.... well that'll teach someone to make snarky comments while you're being appointed to head seraph.
Personality:
Dieter is called Dieter by pretty much everyone but the elves which refer to him by his elven name Helyanwe. Unimportant, no, because the elves never let him forget that he's somehow obligated to them for something. Which he feels is complete hogwash. Dieter goes by Dieter to get away from elven politeness and convention. He prefers vampiric schools of thought although he maintains a distal politeness to anyone he meets until he gets to know them. He is very friendly to anyone he meets but maintains believes in being polite in his own manner. After all, everyone merits some sort of respect.
The problem is that he believes he understands people about 5 minutes after meeting them. Thus upon a second meeting he's bound to have formed his opinion of you and act accordingly. Never being one for much subtly in conversations he often appears brash and stomps on delicate matters in meetings. This is why he's always silent at diplomatic meetings and only talks to the diplomat.
He believes in what he does and takes his work seriously but tries not to appear serious. He prefers to oversee Seraph recruit's training and will smile and be cheerful as he engages with them. Often his training is what they consider, "terrifying," "ungodly," or "the hell day in my week." But he considers such thing for their betterment. After all, if they can't get cursed out of operating their limbs and not be able to swim what'll happen when that becomes an issue.
One thing he's never been able to understand is tech more complicated than "sharp end in bad guy." Every time he's been told to drive an automobile, use a gun, or start an engine, its always ended in some disaster or another. Thus he maintains a certain awkwardness around machinery. He could never be bothered with potion making and forges are obnoxiously hot. However just because he can't understand or do them doesn't mean he has no respect for those who can. He respects many talented Dwarven smiths, MAGI engineers, and Human potion makers.
Other than respect there are a couple things Dieter holds dear. One is to always be doing something. Idleness is just plain boring. Thus even if its just reading a new novel, or showing a date a good time, he believes one should do it as well as they can and must never be caught doing nothing. Another is the importance of teaching. Dieter never wants to keep knowledge all to himself, knowledge is to be shared to those who can make a good use of it. Lastly, the soul is sacred. This has lead to his loathing of all necromancy, and he is very callous when it comes to dealing with necromancers.
Physical Combat:
Dieter Helyanwe prefers to use Chinese styles and weapons in fighting. He knows a variety of Kung Fu and specializes in using a rope dart. He's also been known to use a variety of other knives and short swords as weapons but he usually keeps his concealed chain around his waist unleashing a quick strike from ten feet away.
His martial style tends to favor fluid strikes to vital areas and he prefers to wound enemies to leave them for his interrogation sessions.
Magical Combat:
Dieter specializes in Curses and Defensive magic. He uses his curses to damage or potentially kill his opponents at a distance without leaving a lot of collateral damage to others. He believes that most cases of tight lip will readily be solved by clever curse applications and anyone can tell you he is quick and effective with him.
However he is also very talented with his protective magics. He generates very fast shields, powerful barriers, and will heal injured people before continuing a fight. He believes that protecting life is much harder than taking it and should always be given priority.
