Kyana stepped into the Emporium, looking about for a total of three seconds before walking over to one specific corner of the store. Beneath her dark hair her ears twitched, picking up the sound she was looking for.
Kneeling down beside a kennel of wrestling puppies, Kyana fought back a smile as she turned and looked about for assistance.

Kandy was spacing out when Kyana entered. Yes, very professional of her...but Kandy wasn't a professional kind of woman.
Luckily, she noticed Kyana before the woman had to summon her, and she blinked blue eyes in confusion as she focused on the customer. Who on Earth was that, and how had she worked her way into her daydream?
Oh no, it's a customer, and I'm doing it again! the pink-haired half-elf thought to herself, alarmed. My goodness, I do think I need some coffee!
She laughed nervously and cleared her throat, then made her way over to the woman. Leaving her register unattended. Oh well, if anyone had the guts to try and rob her, she'd launch an arrow up their ass!
"Hi there, and welcome to the Magical Pet Emporium! My name is Kandyce, but you can call me Kandy! Are you looking for something particular today?" She greeted cheerfully, then blinked a few more times when she realized that the woman had her eyes on the puppies. Well then, of course she was looking for something particular, if she was sitting by the puppies! Kandy gave another nervous laugh, and knocked her knuckles to the side of her head.
Wake up, silly, you have work to do!
"Did you have a puppy reserved?"

The elf stood up, adjusting her shirt ever so slightly so it wouldn't ride up nearly as high as this woman's did. Kyana looked the pink-haired shop-owner up and down and bit back a question as to whether she had fallen into a cotton-candy machine at some time during the morning. But Kyana was beyond insults like that, and instead offered the spacey girl a tight smile.
"Thank you, Kandy," she didn't miss a beat, and broadened her smile a little more, "and no, I haven't been here before. I'm just looking for a little..." she gave an adoring look to the puppies, "companion. Are any of these ones reserved right now?"
Kyana let her eyes stay on the little creatures barking and nipping one another playfully. They were a much more decent sight than this Kandy girl standing in front of her. She didn't recognize the girl as a past student. Thankfully, because she would have never gotten away with dressing so... scantily, at the Academy. At least not while Kyana was President.
But Kandyce was not one of Kyana's students, and instead she was the young lady who could sell Kyana a rather adorable, playful puppy.

"You're quite welcome, and you're in luck! Not one of those puppies is reserved! Actually, one was reserved, but a nice old lady came in just yesterday and bought him, so you can take your pick, no worries!" Kandy was hovering near Kyana now, hands clasped behind her back and smiling broadly.
"If there's anything you're looking for in particular, like personality or anything, just let me know! Every puppy is different, but I know them all, because, you know, I run the shop and everything! They have names, too, but they're young enough that you can change it if you want, and they shouldn't have a problem learning a new one!"

"That's wonderful news," Kyana said when Kandyce informed her that none of the puppies were reserved. That gave her a much broader selection. And the elf listened as the girl spoke about personalities. What was she looking for? She knew.
"I'd like something energetic, and obedient," she added, "but I'm willing to put money into obedience classes and whatnot."
She looked at the selection of small dogs before her and smiled again. Yes, she needed a little something to make her smile more often. But she'd also need something she could train to attack when need be. Not that she couldn't handle herself. She just wouldn't stand for weakness in anything she owned.

Kandy smiled at Kyana's approval and bounced around her to pick up the closest puppy. "You're lucky, then! All puppies are energetic by nature, it's just that some cool down when they get older. Puppies might give you a little trouble at first if you're gonna train 'em, since they just like to do their own thing, so to speak! But that's the ideal time to teach them - when they're young - so you should be okay as long as you make learning fun!"
She nodded at the puppy in her arms, and generously scratched behind her ears. "This is Lucy. She's a golden retriever. Golden retrievers are very loyal and loving. They're energetic and playful even in their older years, so they need lots of attention, exercise, and space. They're pretty good at learning, too! But if you want a dog who's more reserved about showing her affection..." Lucy struggled in Kandy's hands, trying to get close enough to lick Kyana's face. "...labs might not be the kinda dog for you."

Kyana watched as Kandyce's struggled to stop the dog from getting too close to her, and she cautiously took a step back. No, a golden retriever was not the type of dog she had in mind. It was very pretty, yes, but a little too spunky for her tastes. Besides, she had heard that they were a pain to teach.
"Lucy is adorable, but yes, I'd appreciate something more reserved..." she looked down at the array of other puppies. Her eye caught a little collie and she stopped to analyze it further.

Kandy nodded and moved to put Lucy back with the other puppies. The golden retriever gave a disappointed little whimper as she realized that she was not the first choice, but when she rejoined the other puppies, she sprung back to life. She tackled the closest puppy playfully, much to the latter's surprise.
The shopkeeper followed Kyana's gaze to the small collie, and she carefully picked that puppy up next. "This is Aiko, she's a border collie. Border collies are very similar to golden retrievers; they grow to be pretty big, and they're very playful and energetic. Border collies are quite intelligent, but that can make them hard to maintain; if they aren't constantly being physically and mentally challenged, they will become irritable and bad tempered, and that's just no fun at all! Border collies are more gentle than golden retrievers, and they're especially good with children, if you have children, that is! Aiko is going to end up with a long coat, though, and that's going to need brushing pretty often."
Aiko blinked big brown eyes at Kyana, tongue lolling happily as she stared back at her.
